Award-winning research highlights the potential of an innovative all-natural topical formulation developed at Appalachian College of Pharmacy.

Oakwood, Virginia — The Appalachian College of Pharmacy (ACP) proudly recognized the research accomplishments of Dr. Faisal Hossain and Dr. Randy Mullins, whose faculty research poster received Third Place at the recent VCOM-VA Research Day Faculty Clinical Research Poster Competition.

The award-winning poster, titled “A Novel All-Natural Topical Formulation for Diverse Skin Conditions: Case Series Findings,” was selected as one of the finalists in the Faculty Clinical Research category. Following an oral presentation by Dr. Randy Mullins, the project was awarded Third Place among the faculty finalists.

The research describes the preliminary findings of an innovative, naturally derived topical formulation designed to support skin health across a variety of minor skin conditions. The case series demonstrated encouraging results and provides a foundation for future clinical research to further evaluate the formulation’s effectiveness and safety.

The formulation was developed through a collaborative research effort led by Dr. Hossain, Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Appalachian College of Pharmacy, in partnership with Dr. Mayhew and Dr.  Mullins. The project reflects ACP’s commitment to advancing evidence-based research in natural products and pharmaceutical sciences. Receiving this recognition at VCOM-VA Research Day represents an important milestone for the research team and reinforces the value of collaborative scientific investigation aimed at developing innovative healthcare solutions.

This project is part of the broader Appen Natural research and product development initiative, which focuses on developing scientifically evaluated natural healthcare products, including topical formulations and other innovative preparations. Through this initiative, research findings are translated into evidence-based products while maintaining a strong commitment to scientific rigor, quality, and patient-centered innovation.
